We have been using word problems since day 1! However, about a month into the year, we moved into multistep problem solving and even adults have problems with that! So, we have been using a number of ways to help us figure out what to do. The first way we introduced was the Window: Remember this? It was a great starter and really helped us organize our information. But some of us are ready to move on and try some other strategies. So this week we introduced some strategies to help us with one of the things we have the most trouble with- deciding what we need to find out. What does the question really want us to do?!? Let's look at this one... Here's what we are doing... I hope this helps! Thanks, Mrs. Froehling

We are into our last new unit! Measurement for us is about measuring capacity, time and missing units of length. We have already ventured into capacity with this video: ![]() Do we need to remember all this? NO! We have a reference chart that we get to use on a daily basis. For us, it's about understanding that filling a bathtub would use less gallons and more cups! We will also be adding and subtracting capacity, such as "Blake has 7/8 of a cup of milk. Adam has 5/8 of a cup less than Blake. How much does Adam have?" Time We are learning about how to add and subtract time within an hour. How does that look? "Pharrell is going to music lessons at 4:45. Before he can go he needs to pack his instruments, which will take 12 minutes. He will also need to get his hats ready, which will take another 10 minutes. What time will he need to start getting ready?" We can use a number line for this. This is just one way we will learn this. Talk to your child for details!
